BNR - Book Brew Sizzle

Iron Wolf, however, came back up to his knees and took her by the shoulders, and, setting her against him once more, he brought her in so closely to him that he could feel her soft curves against him. And, he practically wept with frustration.

He knew he could have made love to her right then. He wanted to; he was ready to. But he had other intentions toward her, also. He wanted her to burn for him, to be so frustrated by not making love to him, that she would be forever desiring him.

And then he would walk away from her, the victor.

But why? asked a tiny voice within him.

Hau, hau, why indeed? For a reason he didn’t understand, this well-devised plan of his to frustrate her seemed suddenly silly.

He put his arms around her and bent his head in toward her, blowing his breath against her hair. He said, “Do you feel my desire for you?”

“Of course.”

“Perhaps I shouldn’t tell you this, but it had been my plan to cause you great frustration—to cause you to desire me so bad that you would do most anything I would ask of you. I had thought to count coup on you by never allowing your desire to come to its proper end. Now, that seems a foolish idea.”

“Oh? Does this mean you desire to count coup on me in a different way, then?”

“Hau. I think now I should simply take you in lust and count coup on you so that you will never marry that man. Or if you do, you would be so disgraced that you would forever think of me whenever you were with him.”

“I see. That’s what this is about, then. You wish to take me away from Nathaniel?”

“I do.”

She sighed and brought her arms up to reach around his neck. Raising her face toward his, she murmured, “Then do it. I’m not stopping you.”

All at once, he realized it was true. She was not putting him at arm’s distance; she was not fighting him. But still, he felt compelled to mock her, and he said, “I will not be doing this because I love you.”

“Good. Because neither will I.”

He shut his eyes as he realized that whether he loved her or lusted after her, he had suddenly become a very lucky man this night.
