I would probably say the one GLBT book that ever held my attention so much was Captain’s Surrender by Alex Beecroft. The story alone transported me into the ambiance of the time and place with the British Navy. The two powerful players, Joshua and Peter, were very impressive as they struggled with their feelings, as well as what it would do to their Navy career and their life. I think what I liked so much about it was the fact the author didn’t make a story where the two men did a lot of bed hopping. Instead, they struggled to find what was important to them, with being gay, and knowing what would happen to them in their time if the fact were known. Society definitely did not play nice, and trying to keep their feelings at bay, without facing consequences, was indeed an excellent romance that still sticks in my mind. A recommended read for any time.
