Interview with Starr from Wild Witches of Beaver Bay.  Hi, Starr! Tell us about yourself. Where are you from?

I live in Maryland with my family—a large extended family, to be exact. There are some characters for sure. My mom is pyrokinetic, my spepdad is the spirit twin of a wolf, and my best friend is half demon half vampire. Mysti, the love of my life, is from a long line of witches. You’ll have to read our story to believe it.

What’s your job?

You think I have just one job? I’m into computer tech and diversified investments. That stuff helps fund my family’s real work as demon hunters.

How did you and Mysti meet?

It might sound crazy, but I was called to her. I followed a blazing path that led me right to her family’s cabin in the woods of New Hampshire. It’s literally a magical place. Her family is descended from warrior witches.

What are three things you love about Mysti?

For one, her courage. We met in the middle of a storm and I was injured. She didn’t hesitate to rescue me. I also love her openness. She’ll tell you she’s not comfortable around people, and that might be true, but she didn’t hesitate to accept my unusual family and the craziness of my life. I also love her kindness.

What annoys you most about Mysti?

I love that woman, but damn, she can be bossy.

What scares you?

The thought of demons taking over our world. Every day it gets harder and harder to fend them off.

What’s your favorite food?

I’d rather tell you my least favorite. I hate burgers. Why does everyone want to stop at fast food places for burgers? Tastes like crap to me.

What kind of music do you listen to?

Country. Mysti and I both love it.

Do you have any tattoos or piercings?

I’ve got lots of tattoos. My pentagram tattoo is a family thing. We all have it.

Starr, one last question—

Sorry, but I have to go.  Just got an alert from the family. There’s demon trouble. Thanks for the interview!

Good luck, Starr!

Excerpt from Wild Witches of Beaver Bay

Now that they were alone again, she felt a bit awkward, not because of him, but because of the secret she was keeping. He stared at her with those startlingly honest blue eyes. The dusting of freckles across his nose and cheekbones lent him a boyishness that was a startling contrast to his easy smile and square, beard-roughened jaw. He was just a guy who wanted to get to know her, but she knew that they would be bound for life. Mysti valued honesty, in particular between partners, but if she told him about her insight and her family’s magical background, he’d think she was crazy.

Yet crazy or not, if they were meant to be. . .

“What’s wrong?” he asked.

Damn. Leave it to her to be bound to the rarest type of man—a perceptive one.

She forced a smile. “Nothing. Why do you ask?”

“You’re moping.”

“I am not.”

“No, you were definitely moping. I just met you and already I can tell.”

“Starr, I don’t think I can do this. Not like this.”

He looked startled. “Do what? I’m not going to try to get you in bed, if that’s what you’re worried about.”

“I’m not, and. . .you’re not?”

“Oh.” His words took her aback. Not that she expected him to want sex, but it would be nice if the man she was to spend the rest of her life with desired her.

“Was that what you’re worried about?” he asked.

“No. You’re not interested in sex?”

“Hold everything. I never said I wasn’t interested in sex. I said I’m not going to dive on a lady I just met.”

“Oh. That makes sense.” He was trying to be a gentleman, and maybe he was particular. Some men were, and he had no way of knowing–

“What’s wrong now?”

“Starr, stop doing that.”

“Asking what’s wrong.”

“Did you want to go to bed? Is that the problem?” he prodded.

“There’s no problem.”

He raised an eyebrow and for the first time she realized that as much as she liked him, he already had traits that drove her crazy.
